The winter's over and summer has suddenly arrived. Maybe there are many of you who only put aside the gear when coming home from the last tour, and that's not really ideal for the skis and boots.
If you have well-being at your heart a little, then find them now to devote time to do some maintenance job on the ski and boots: pamper them, wax them so that they can have a calm summer sleep.

What to do with the boots?

  • • Remove the inner shoes and put them in a dry warm place to make them dry if they're wet, or if they smell they can be aired.
    • The outer parts of the boots should be wiped with lukewarm soapy water then also dried.
    • A couple of days later you can assemble the boots again, the buckles should be oiled if they're made of metal (I use WD 40), and after buckling them all up at a medium force they can be put in boot bag.

What to do with the skis?

  • • First of all, clean them. You can even wash them in lukewarm soapy water in the bath tub. Then wipe them with a dry cloth and dry them completely.
    • After that, loosen a little on the springs by the screws that control the bindings. But before that note down the exact numbers the indicators show. The bindings should be well oiled as well!
    • The bottom of the skis need to be dealt with by an expert at best. You can say the services doing that have already started the summer season. That's true, but that only means they can't sharpen the steel edges. The most important thing is to put wax on the bottom and also leave it on the edge to prevent the steel from oxidizing - i.e. rusting - when it meets the air. If you can't go to the service, then spread a lot of cold wax on the dried skis and wipe the edges with an oily cloth thoroughly. If you're brave, you can try warm waxing using the iron at a low temperature.
    • Until the next season, store the skis in an upright position, not standing against each other or strapped together.
